Surgery
Whether your pet requires a routine procedure or complex surgery, you can trust our experienced veterinary team to provide compassionate care and expert surgical expertise.
X-Rays
X-rays are invaluable tools in veterinary medicine, providing detailed images of your pet’s internal structures to aid in diagnosis and treatment. We offer both full-body and dental X-rays to ensure comprehensive care for your furry family member.
Dental Cleaning & Health
Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in pets, affecting up to 80% of dogs and 70% of cats by the age of three?
Our dental cleaning services are designed to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy, ensuring a lifetime of good oral hygiene. Regular dental cleanings are essential for preventing dental disease and maintaining your pet’s overall health and well-being. By addressing dental issues early, we can help prevent pain, infection, and other serious health problems down the road.

Partner Veterinarian
Deborah Mitchell, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Deborah Mitchell sold Knollwood Hospital for Pets in August 2024 to Hometown Veterinary Partners and is now semi-retired. However, her passion for pets remains as strong as ever, just like when she was a 6-year-old in a crumpled and dirty Sunday dress, being scolded by her Mom. Her Mom recalls telling her not to get all dirty by playing with strange dogs and cats, only to hear: “But Mama! They’re NOT strangers – they’re my friends!”
Dr. Mitchell continues to feel as privileged to care for your pets today as she did when she earned her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois in 1983. She still speaks the same Dog, Cat, and Bunny language she learned from her animal friends on those long-ago Sundays. Her medical focus remains on wellness maintenance, working with pet owners to provide the tools needed to keep pets vibrantly healthy and happy. She understands that for pet lovers, our pets are our family and dear friends.
Although she has stepped down from her roles as Medical Director and Practice Manager, Dr. Mitchell will maintain her patient care schedule through the end of 2024, seeing patients by appointment only. She is dedicated to practicing integrative medicine, blending her traditional Western medical training with alternative therapies as appropriate to provide your pet with the best tools for healing and wellness.
Dr. Mitchell and her wife, Dr. Heather Hopkins, share their lives with two rescued terrier mixes, 14-year-old Walter from Homeward Bound Animal Rescue and 15-year-old Rosalita from Young at Heart Dog and Cat Rescue. Walter and Rosalita often take turns coming to work and would love to meet you. In her spare time, Dr. Mitchell enjoys gardening, reading, kayaking, and volunteering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. As an expert in veterinary acupuncture, chiropractic care, traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Reiki, and more, Dr. Mitchell continues to lecture nationwide on integrative small animal medicine and practice management.
